Reflection
This piece of work is over my whole experience in my comp class. This covers my feelings and my new knowledge that it has given and helped me developed.
During my composition semesters I wrote 3 major papers. The first one was a hometown narrative. It had to be something that impacted me during my life to this day. My process for this assignment was very much in my head. I had trouble thinking about what I wanted to write about. My life had pretty much been basic, and I felt as if I had nothing to write about. At the time, I created a page to help me think of the interesting things about me and my hometown. Ultimately, I decided on my move to my hometown. My second writing assignment was an ad analysis. The ad analysis was by far one of the harder assignments I have done. I was not familiar with ethos, pathos, and logos. I had to take extra time to find an ad and study it to the best of my ability. I took a page and wrote down every detail I could see about the ad. While the Lego ad was very detailed. I still struggled writing it. Our final major paper was a protest song argument. The protest song argument was an assignment I did not understand. I have never connected with the types of music presented in the assignment. Therefore, I was going into this assignment completely blind. This required a lot of research in my end. Which I was thankful for because I had zero idea behind the meanings of my chosen song. I ended up writing down a breakdown of the assignment in question form which helped me write and complete my essay. My first reading response was complicated. I had no clue what I was doing. I had no clue how to write a reading response. Although during the process I had found something that worked for me. I was able to figure out all the questions I needed to use to complete the assignment. This helped me with all of my reading responses from the first one to the very last one.
For Comp I, I wrote a narrative, an analysis, and an argument. These all had completely different audience purposes. For the narrative assignment, I was trying to connect with my peers about mine and their hometown differences. The analysis was being used to inform people about the impact an ad can have on different types of people. While the argument essay was being used to explain why a certain song was considered a protest song. It was to show the different types of song that can help represent and support different things for different groups of people. During my time in composition classes we learned that different things could affect different people in different ways. For example, the ad analysis was being used to communicate to the people who have the want to express themselves. My reading responses for composition were certain stories that stuck with me. They helped me learn the importance of sleep, they also helped me feel safer and more comfortable in my new environment. During my peer review sessions, my classmates helped me with my papers. This was positive for me to help with understanding different assignments through other people's eyes. Before I fully wrote my paper, I put all of my thoughts down on paper. This gave me time to be able to understand where I was going with my assignment and how to put my thoughts into full words/sentences. I liked to use my word resources to help correct my paper. Another thing I also used was my outside resources. I had multiple people read my papers to make sure everything sounded clear and concise. When starting my papers, I like to take my time to read my instructions fully in order to understand what is expected of me. After this, I will begin to brainstorm and write down everything that comes to mind. I will begin to group similar ideas and form an outline of my paper. After that, I will have someone read my outline and help critique what needs to be done. Finally, I will create my final draft to piece together all of my best work. During comp, I was able to understand deeper about the construction of paragraphs and how things needed to be worded. In my reading responses I was able to read my responses, and they are in similar formats. Therefore, I was able to focus more on my writing rather than my formatting. In comp review we also learned many things we needed to be able to succeed. There were quizzes we would take to help us learn our grammar and help use it in our writing. These quizzes helped me understand the usage of commas better in my writing. We read lots of reading responses for comp. The readings ranged from non-fiction statistics to the learnings of how people reacted to their different neighbors. I liked learning about people like me who felt similar to me in my new situations. My final portfolio was definitely an eye opener. I was amazed by my progress in my writing. I think the longer writing assignments became easier for me, because I had more tools available to me.
One of my strengths would be that I have a good imagination and a wide variety of words for papers. I have always loved writing. I have always been able to use my imagination when it comes to making a paper sound full. This was very helpful in composition when it came to writing longer papers. I have always had difficulty writing and reading non-fiction works of writing. This has never been my interest, so I never gave it a chance. In my college classes was the first time I had experienced having to write non-fiction. This class has helped me grow in this area significantly. Using my comp 1 and comp review knowledge is going to be easy in the future. I will be able to write more professional emails when I get out into the job world. This class can also help me in future classes, because it has taught me different ways to research and use information.
